Solstice & Rye delivered roughly 40 hours of verité footage for a short documentary and asked for an 11-minute cut with no pre-existing structure to follow — the story had to be found in the edit rather than confirmed by it. We logged and grouped the footage by theme rather than chronology first, which is what let the final sequence run out of order from how anything was actually filmed.
The interviews were shot across three different camera bodies over eight months as crew availability changed, so the grade’s main job was consistency rather than style: we built a custom LUT from camera-matched colour charts shot on each body and used it as the starting point for every interview set-up, so a viewer never notices the story was gathered on three different cameras.
